THE COMPARISON ANALYSIS OF COST AND BENEFIT ON SUGAR CANE FARMING WITH RATOON METHOD ON WET AND DRY FIELD IN EAST JAVA PROVINCE

ABSTRACT

The objectives of this study is to analyze the comparison of cost and benefit of ratoon sugar cane
farming on wet and dry field in Malang, Pasuruan, Lumajang and Situbondo district in East
Java Province. The sample determination in this study is using purposive sampling technique.
There are 54 sugar cane farmers with ratoon method in Malang, Pasuruan, Lumajang and
Situbondo district in East Java Province that consist of 19 farmers who cultivated sugar cane
on wet field and 35 farmers that cultivated on dry field. Data were analyzed by using comparison
t-test method. The result shows that the differences of cost and revenue are statistically
significant between sugar cane farming on wet field and dry field in Malang, Pasuruan,
Lumajang and situbondo district. The average of total cost per hectare per planting season that
paid by sucarcane farmers in fields is greater than the total cost of farming on the solid land.
Farming on wet field is more feasible compared to farming on dry field. Government
intervention in terms of drainage maintenance facilitation and facilitation of farmers' access in
obtaining inputs and capital in order to improve the efficiency of sugar cane farming.
