DEVELOPING DISTRICT FOOD AND NUTRITION SECURITY INDEX IN DISTRICT BANDUNG BARAT

ABSTRACT
The objectives of this study are to identify indicators food and nutrition security to
develop a comprehensive scoring system for food and nutrition security at the district level,
and to evaluate the situations of food and nutrition security using developed indicators. There
were14 indicators selected from 196 potential indicators and a composite index was used
to evaluate food and nutrition level in District Bandung Barat. The result showed that food
and nutrition situation in District Bandung Barat during 2011-2015 was categorical as
insecure. Food availability is a pillar that has been categorized well with the strength in the
level of sufficiency energy, protein adequacy and rice sufficiency ratio. The pillar that should
be prioritized was food utilization which effort to decreased prevalence of stunting, wasting,
underweight, increased infants under 6 month who are exclusive breastfed, decreased chronic
energy deficiency pregnant women, increased sanitation facilities and drinking water
sources. Sensitive and specific intervention and cross-sectoral cooperation that focused and
has a common target are needed to improve food and nutrition security.
