DINAMICA OF FOOD AVAILABILITY IN SIDOARJO DISTRICT

ABSTRACT
Food insecurity can lead to famine. Food insecurity itself is a condition where someone is not
getting enough food due to limited resources. Early detection of food insecurity can help to
realize the conditions of food security. One of the early detection of food insecurity is by
detecting the food availability. This study aims to: (1) Analyze the dinamica of quantity of food
availability in Sidoarjo District in 2013-2016, (2) Analyze the dinamica of quality of food
availability in Sidoarjo District in 2013-2016, (3) Analyze the correlation between the
availability of agricultural land and the food availability. The method that used in this research
is Food Balance Sheet, Dietary Food Pattern score, and Pearson correlation. The results
showed that the energy availability in 2013-2016 fluctuated but tended to increase. The value
in each year is 1994,55 kcal/capita/day, 2059,14 kcal/kapita/day, 2155,91kcal/capita/day, and
2004,21kcal/capita/day. The availability of protein in 2013-2016 fluctuated but tended to
decrease. The value in each year is 68,99 gr/capita/day, 67,25 gr/capita/day, 90,98
gr/capita/day, and 75,78 gr/capita/day. Dinamica of quality of food availability in Sidoarjo
District is not varied. This is because the value of dietary food pattern score is less than 100.
The value in each year is 65,19; 68,96; 78,87; and 71,88. The availability of agricultural land
with energy availability or the availability of agricultural land with protein availability is not
related. It shown by the correlation value from each correlation is -0,536 and -0,909 and p-
value from each correlation is 0,464 and 0,091 (p-value > 5%).
