CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACTS ON PRODUCTION AND FARM INCOME RED CHILLI (CASE IN SUMBERBENDO HAMLET, KUCUR VILLAGE, MALANG)

ABSTRACT

Climate change occurs due to a change of climate elements such as wind speed, humidity,
temperature, and rainfall. One of the agricultural sector affected by climate change is
horticulture subsectors to red chili plant (Capsicum annuum L) which is one of the leading
commodity at Sumberbendo Hamlet. Before the climate change (year 2012-2013) and after the
climate change (year 2014-2015) there is a significant difference from the elements of the
climate wind speed, rainfall, and humidity. This research aimed to describe the knowledge of
farmers to climate change, analyze the impact of differences in production before and after
climate change, analyze the impact of difference in farmer’s income before and after climate
change, analyze socio-economic before and after climate change. This research was conducted
in Sumberbendo Hamlet, Kucur Village, Malang District. Based on the analysis, that red chili
farmers gain knowledge or information about the existence of climate change on the television
as many as 21 people. The average of production per Ha before and after climate change on
land area <0,5 Ha are 8.210,21 kg and 7.092 kg, on land area 0,5-1 Ha are 5.263,22 kg and
4.594,52 kg, on land area >1 Ha are 3.879 kg and 3.430,6 kg. The average total income per
hectare where before and after climate change on land area <0,5 Ha Rp. 88.700.000 and Rp
81.200.000, on a land area of 0,5-1 Ha Rp. 69.057.000 and Rp. 64.692.000, on a land area of
>1 Ha Rp. 38.500.000 and Rp. 35.879.000. Test results average difference in production and
income of red chili before climate change and after the occurrence of climate change
significantly different. Social conditions among farmers indicates that farmers are sharing
information regarding the cultivation of red chili farming. There are no of innovation adoption
is offered so that the farmers could only surrender the red chili with a production decreased, it
can be concluded that production and farmer’s income decreased and social-economic change.
